World Trade Center & Twin Towers of New York City in VR

Explore the original World Trade Center of New York City in 3D.

Walk around the original World Trade Center of New York City. 360-degree Panorama from the roof of the New York World Trade Center was found here, modified and reduced in size.

The Twin Towers and the World Trade Center in New York City were demolished by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Because we are no longer able to visit the original site, I'm recreating the World Trade Center here in 3D Virtual Reality as a tribute to the World Trade Center and all those victims who perished.

These models were originally created in 2001 with VRML and converted to X3D*. Here you can "walk" around the virtual Tobin Plaza and even do a walkthrough inside the Twin Towers themselves in real time. View New York City from the top of the Observation Deck of the Twin Towers! No headset required to explore these worlds.

These building models are currently under ongoing development using the free and open source 3D software Blender, so please visit often to view the updates. Suggestions for improving the 3D World Trade Center in Virtual Reality are welcome.

The code that allows you to see these VR worlds is X_ITE, a new JavaScript library that uses WebGL for 3D rendering of X3D content. Since X3D is backward compatible, X_ITE can also be used as a VRML viewer! There is no need to have a plugin any longer!

New! Now you can use your VR headset (such as Meta Quest) for an immersive experience of these worlds! Nothing to download; just plug in.

* X3D, and its predecessor VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language), is a 3D VR modeling language used to describe interactive object shapes and whole worlds. You can create your own X3D worlds without any special software. All you need is a text editor (like notepad) to start creating your own worlds! For more information about X3D & VRML check out WebX3D or The Web3D Consortium.
